I am building up a new Linux PC and I ordered all the parts. I over-looked one thing when specking it out; I think I bought too much video card for my PSU.

Here's what I have.

  • Case / Mobo: Shuttle SH87R6. 300W PSU
    CPU: i7-4771 3.5Ghz
    RAM: 2x4GB DDR3 PC3-12800
HDDs: Crucial M500 msata 120GB, Seagate 3TB green sata
    Optical: LG BD-ROM
    GFX: GeForce GTX 650 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 x 16 (PNY VCGGTX6501XPB)

According to eXtreme Power Supply Calculator (http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine), I should be able to run this as the recommended PSU Wattage is 258W.

I appreciate your input!

Off hand, I would put your power draw at about 150W so your 300W PSU should be able to run your system. I say should because I am assuming the PSU came with the case and often those are not of high quality so considering that, it becomes a 'crap shoot' as to whether it will or not.
Make and model of the PSU would be somewhat helpful to determine it's true capabilities.

Thank you for the reply! The PSU came with the case, so I don't really have a model #. Here is the info I know:

80 Plus 300W power supply
Input:100 - 240V AC
Support 80 PLUS Bronze

Generally I agree with you, and in the future I will likely upgrade to the 500W PSU that fits in the system. Especially as I'm getting the feeling that I'm right on the borderline of "enough power" and "underpowered".
