So I bought a acer aspire x1420g at least 2 years ago having a copy of Windows 7 already on it. About a month ago I built a new computer using only the same 1 tb hdd from the aspire i'm not sure if this is related to whatever is causing the problem anyway it suddenly says today when I wake up after my pc sitting on all night like it often does that my copy of windows 7 is not genuine its build 7601 and I have no key because the windows copy was already on this hdd when I bought the pre built computer 2 years ago. Edit: I just went and found the old case for the aspire and it does have a product key on it for Windows 7

Moving the hard drive from the old system to the new system usually doesn't work without a fresh installation. You can try re-using the Acer product key to re-activate Windows, but that's likely to fail and require you to call Microsoft for re-activation. That too may fail for the reasons Derza10 gives, at which point you will be required to purchase a new copy of Windows.
