Hello

Does the cpu determine what type of ram you can use or is it the motherboard?

I might buy the AMD FX 8350

I read that the Asrock AMD 990FX Extreme 3 can use 2100 ram oc'ed. But I thought I read somewhere that the FX 8350 only supports up to 1866 speed.

I don't know why you would want to overclock the memory to 2100 MHz, I also read somewhere that AMD processors benefit more from tight timing than from ram frequency.

That is not AMD benefiting from low latency, that is games.

Actually what I read was that AMD processors benefit more from low latency while Intel chips benefit more from higher frequency. I am not saying it is a FACT, I am telling him what I read.

Interesting because I have low frequencies on my AMD and high on my Intel and they both run the same even though on higher frequency the latency is 5ms and low frequency is 4ms. I don't know if I said that right but I'm sure you know what I mean. In fact my AMD is 533 while the intel is like some odd crazy high. Also, the lower 533 never ever gets hot. The higher frequency ones can get a little warm. Maybe that is just because of their proximity to the processor though.

Don't worry about the branding but the architecture. There are many kinds of ram, sizes, types and voltage.
