Im on a budget and all i need left for my pc is the hdd, im only getting the money next month.
But since i have a 1th usb 3 hdd lying around, im wondering if i can use that to run as a main hdd until i get my actual HDD next month?
Thanks in advance

Solution
If your mobo supports booting from USB then you can go for this option. Otherwise get some basic 250GB etc HDD and install windows on that HDD and use 1tb USB 3.0 as main drive for storage purpose.

From my understanding, you should be able to install the OS and run it normally, except it will be a lot slower. You might not notice it if you're just going to be surfing the web, but if you're going to be using anything like Photoshop, or running any games, you'll definitely notice it. Depending on the external drive being use, you might be able to pop it open, throw it in the computer, hook it up as a standard SATA drive, and run it normally. This would probably void any warranty you have on it though.

As long as you reinstall the OS, yes.
