In my BIOS it shows only half of the installed memory under total memory.

I have installed my OS and under system memory it shows up as the whole 8GB (but 3.90GB usable).

Does anyone have any help?

I'm wondering if there are settings in my BIOS that I'm not setting right?

Using ASUS UEFI BIOS Utility - EZ Mode

System:
AMD FX6300
Asus M5A97 R2.0
PNY Geforce GTX 660
2 - Kingston Hyper X Beast 4GB
Corsair CX430
Corsair 230T

If you are using a 64bit version of Windows you should be able to access all your memory unless you memory isn't properly installed or one of the 4GB mods is bad. As Tach says you need to test your ram. Pull both stick out and put in one and start your computer. If it is able to read it turn off your computer and change the stick to the other and turn on your computer, If it is able to be read the reseat both on the motherboard and see if you are now getting all 8GB. If not try another pair of slots you may have a bad memory slot. Your memory slots should be color coded be sure you seat them in the same color.

8gb available 3.9 usable can mean only 1 of 2 things:

-either 32bit os (btw, okpac - you don't set the os to 64 you install the 64 bit version)
-or as suggested above, certain motherboards need a bios update before they work properly with 8gb - but this is very rare

a bad stick would either not show at all (4gb available 3.9 usable) or would crash when posting/loading windows.

I installed the x64 OS. On the system panel it shows:

64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor
Installed memory (RAM): 8GB (3.90 GB usable)

I have tried the sticks in every imaginable way and started the computer each way with the results being exactly the same as it was before I moved the sticks around.
