Alright, so kind of like tattoos being addictive, I occasionally get “the bug” to buy some new PC parts, and unfortunately for my wallet, I’ve got that going on right now. So, I want you to help me figure out what you think would benefit me the most. Here is the rig so far:

I5 3570k (OC to 4.5ghz on a hyper 212 evo – I like my chip!)
Extreme3 mobo
EVGA GTX 680 super clocked signature 2 edition
2 HDD, 2 SSD
Corsair Vengeance 1600 (16gb)
Corsair TX750 – 750w PSU
Thermaltake Chaser Mk-1 case (4x200mm fans)

To help with this, I primarily use my machine for 3 reasons. 1 – general internet purposes, 2 – gaming (primary purpose), 3 – video editing (secondary purpose – I make gaming videos for my YouTube channel). So here are a couple options, and I’d like your help/advice on what you think would pay the biggest dividends to me!

Upgrade to an i7 (4770k maybe). Hyperthreading would be helpful for video encoding, but I probably wouldn’t see much if any improvement in gaming, especially if it won’t OC as high as my i5 currently does.

SLI my GPU. I would try to find the same card, but I’ve seen other 680’s going much cheaper, so I might just go that route knowing that I would make up the non-super clocked performance in the SLI performance. I’m thinking about that right, right? Any 680 will be able to SLI, but if it’s slower, it would downclock my current one, right?

1440p Monitor – not sure I’ve even seen this resolution before, but seems to be the wave of the future. Is the picture good enough to justify the cost? Would a single 680 handle that resolution ok? Anything else I need to consider with this option?

So based on my uses and knowing that I’m looking for optimal gaming/recording/video editing machine possible, what would your vote be amongst these? If you don’t like these options and have another, please feel free to write one in!
Thanks, BPB

A 680 wouldn't have any issue with a 1440p monitor, but you might have to settle for high settings instead of Ultra. If you get a 4770k, you have to buy a new motherboard as well because it's a jump from Ivy Bridge to Haswell. Or, you could just get a 3770k and stick with your motherboard.

If you decide to SLI your cards, I'd probably think about getting an 850w Psu. The 750 might do ok, but personally, I'd like the 100w of headroom just in case because you have the CPu overclocked.

Honestly, I'd just look into getting a single 780ti video card, or upgrading your Cpu cooler to something a little more robust. Maybe check out some of the AiO water coolers, or spend some money and get an XSPC Raystorm kit that you can "open" up in the future and add to it.
