So I am building my first ever gaming PC and just got my new parts. My neighbor said he would help me with it and got me to open it and install the CPU before I had the rest of my parts. Currently I only have a Case, Motherboard, CPU, and Power supply. So we were looking over the mobo and he took off the black plastic at first the pins looked perfect, a few mins later I lookd down and it looks like 2 dots in with the pins which i suspected to be bent pins. I didnt have a magnifying glasee but in bright light it definitly looked bent. He tried to play it off as no big deal, which for him yeah, but for me who had to save up for this build it is. Anyway he looked up on google and said its fine. I put the CPU in and closed the lock and then took the CPU back out and it looks perfect now??????? is it possible that that the cpu bent the two pins back in place?
anyways, the Mobo is a ASRock extrem3 and the CPU a i54670k

all input/advice much appreciated. ty

Uhm, depends how 'bent' they are. The best method, simply hold the CPU upside down, and under a bright light look down every row, then turn it 90degrees, then again every row and so on. If they are all straight then don't worry, If any are bent then you better tell your 'friend' he better get the Credit Card out and order you a new CPU. Once the metal is bent, there is more and more likelihood they will BREAK OFF if you keep trying to bend them back and forth to straighten them out (especially as you don't have a magnifying glass to look at them properlY). Just a word of warning.

Thanks for the advice. The pins are on my motherboard and the CPU has small gold plates . It was hardly bent at all, once I put the cpu on and closed it, then removed it looked like they were perfect. The only bad thing is I have 15 days to return to microcenter so i'm hoping to get all my parts ASAP! lol.

I'm cursing myself for even opening anything without having all my parts.

I guess i'll remember that for future builds :/

Thanks Again!

I will definatly be buying a magnifying glass to look it over if it does not work. Also, is it okay to remove the same CPU multiple times? I would think so as long as your careful but being new to this I'm asking any questions I can.
