Hello guys. The idle temps on my 4770k are around 21C (I have a custom water cooling loop), I have heard of people deliding their 4770k and shaving off 20c. If this is the case, if I delid mine will my CPU run a 1c? Maybe silly question I am just wondering.

Not true. The coolest that your CPU can ever get is room temperature. In my opinion, a person should never delid a CPU. It voids the warranty, which may cause headaches down the road, and it is easy to mess up. Your processor temps. are perfectly fine where they are, they are already 8 degrees lower than mine with the same cpu.

No you will not have it run 1°C, that is lower than your room temp (at least I'm assuming). People are usually referring at load temps (like 50°C vs 70°C or whatever).

In delidding there is always the potential to ruin your processor and you will probably see at best like 3 to 5°C decrease in temps at load.

Does the benefit outweigh the risk? Not for me.

And why do you need to run the processor to run cooler? A crazy overclock or something?

As people have said, you cannot get it lower than room temperature.

I do have to disagree about the delidding risks, however. Yes, it voids your warranty, but the vice method is incredibly easy. I've delidded two 4770k processors with no problems. First try was a success with no prior experience. Second time was even easier.

And it's not that small of a gain. I dropped 20c at load on both CPUs. I am running 4.6GHz @ 1.22v or so, never goes above 60c at full load with merely a Corsair H60. My idles have dipped to 16c minimum when my room is that cold.
