Hi everyone,

I've just gotten an Asus R9 280x and my PSU is a Corsair CX 750M which I understand to be enough power.

My question is about the PCI cables that come with the PSU. They have 2 6+2 connectors on each cable. The card has 2 8pin connections on it, of course. So, will I need to use 2 PCI cables and just use 1 connection from each cable or will using 1 cable and both connecters on the single cable be alright?

Did I explain that well enough? My concern is too much power flowing through the single PCI cable or should I even be worried?

Thanks!

Ideally, you would want to spread the load across the most wires between the PSU and GPU as possible to reduce wiring losses. If you can use 6+2 from two separate cables, that would be ideal.

Alright, that makes sense.

Would it be a problem if I removed the extra 6+2 from each of the PCI cables? I want as little clutter inside the case as possible.

You could simply fold the cable back and tie it to the rest of the cable.

If you start hacking the cables, you need to cover the wire ends properly to avoid shorts and it may void the warranty on the PSU. If you are worried about clutter from a cosmetic standpoint, the covering of your hack may end up looking worse than loose cable ends. For airflow, a few loose cables are not going to make much of a difference unless those cables are going through tight airflow areas.
