Well I've had some troubles with my computer just suddenly, a game called Mount and Blade: Warband. I stopped playing it for a while and I just got back onto it and I suddenly have the most biggest FPS lag in the world, I've turned everything off, changed to Direct 7 and done everything I could. It still lags, however on my Mac it works perfectly fine and runs so smooth is unbelieveable but the only problem with the Mac is I cant find my directory to install a module and I think that since I'm on the demo. Anyway my PC specs are: 2.5 Ghz Intel core i2 Quad (Crap, I know.), 6gb ram and a R7870, drivers should automatically update. On the other hand my mac is insanely better. Intel Core i7 Quad 3.4ghz, 8gb ram and a 7970, I believe. Somehow this is bugging me and I dont like running on 15 fps anymore. I really hope Tom's Hardware can resolve this problem even if it is in the wrong section. Thank you and I hope that somebody, somewhere can resolve this pest of an issue.

This is most probably driver related, first of all why are you using Direct X 7? For the love of god update to at least 9, preferably 11. The 7970 can handle 11.

Also make sure all your other drivers are up to date, make sure the graphics options in game are right, and just use some graphics mods. I know this sounds silly but I had a similar problem with San Andreas on m old pc and I downloaded a graphics mod which increased the graphics and that made my system run the game better.

Mount & Blade 2 will be out soon maybe in a year or 2 :)

Let me know if the drivers didn't work so we can work on other possible solutions.

Somehow it was running on late Radeon drivers or Nvidia drivers, the FPS is increased and it is alright. But Christiaan, what program did you have to increase your games performance.

Allright I need you to do the following for me:

Because it seems you have both Nvidia and AMD drivers which is a waste of space and will confuse you.

Open Start menu in the searchbar at the bottom type in: "dxdiag" (without the "...")

Copy paste all that info in system panel for me here and then click on display and copy that info as well please.

That way I can assist you further.

If it says AMD Radeon remove all Nvidia Drivers.

If you are using an Intel CPU and Nvidia Graphics card remove all Ati / AMD drivers.

If you are using a Nvidia graphics card but AMD CPU be careful about this and only remove AMD catalyst. Nothing else...

As for performance boosting programs I would have to say http://www.razerzone.com/gb-en/gamebooster is probably your safest bet.

Happy hunting.

Alright simple, you just remove the Nvidia drivers.

I can also advise you on removing a few programs that might be draining resources while you are playing but for now let's keep it simple try that game optimizer, removing the Nvidia drivers, updating your AMD Catalyst drivers, CPU drivers and then choosing optimal settings for your games.

Obviously you should have shadow settings on either completely off, low or medium (test this and check which works best, sometimes shadows really affect allot).

Also turn off anti aliasing completely.

Make sure that the other settings fit your performance and that your settings are not too high, for example I doubt you should play on ultra or very high, possibly just medium- high. Where most settings are on medium.

Let me know how it goes and if you need extra help.

Remove all Nvidia drivers

Download the http://www.razerzone.com/gb-en/gamebooster if you feel you need a performance booster

Install once it is downloaded

Set your graphics to the recommended settings.

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/Requirements/battlefield-4/11804?p=a

There are 2 websites that will put you in the right direction.

Here is a general rule of thumb when playing games (what graphics settings to choose)

1. Always have Anti aliasing off unless you have a monster PC and great GPU

2. Turn shadows off

3. Set texture quality to medium

4. Set other settings to medium

5. If the game has reflections turn them off

6. Any motion blur ect. (special effects) should also be turned off.

(So as a whole you will be playing on medium)

Now look at how the game runs, if it runs really smooth increase something maybe put the shadows on low or medium. Play around with it.

This way you will see what works best on your system there are no set rules as this is dependant on your system which is probably unique. I put some money into my pc so I don't have to have these headaches anymore.

I use to play on a really old pc since I gave up gaming ect. All I used it for was browsing and photoshop and it was really laggy with CS4 and CS5 so I had to upgrade and gaming was reintroduced to me as a whole new world filled with great detail and beautiful textures.

A final tip I will give you go into control panel and look at any unused and useless programs there should be a few , do some spring cleaning and erase that from your hard drive. Especially programs that run in the background but are not needed.
