Is there any advantage to purchasing more PSU wattage than necessary? E.g. I need an 850W PSU, but purchase a 1050W instead. Am contemplating a Corsair HX 1050 80+ Gold, when the 850 is probably enough.

More about : psu overkill

The best advantage in my opinion is upgrade parts in the future without having to buy a new PSU.

That's the only real "advantage I can find"

If you "need" 850watts...more is always better for stability and peace of mind.

Both reply's hit the spot. Thanks AshyCFC and toddybody for your answers. I was just thinking that wear-and-tear might be reduced by going with more wattage...and there is always the possibility of crossfiring my r9290 at some point. You both have confirmed my thoughts on the matter...so, 1050W it is! ^_^
