Is this the best 780 card out there? I'm wanting to upgrade my GTX 670. The 780 ti is just to dang expensive and 780's are still great cards. How comparable is the best 780 to a stock 780 ti?

More about : zotac geforce gtx 780 amp edition

any 780 would be a good upgrade. though i know a few folks who really like their gigabyte windforce 780s.

if you are going to take OCing into account, there is no comparison. but you could get in "arm's length" Ocing the 780 and leaving the 780ti @ stock.

Never really answered my question. Is the Zotac the one to buy?

picking "the best" could mean a lot of different things to people.

is it quite?
is it overclocked out of the box?
does it overclock best?
is it cool?

each of those 4 questions weight differently, or have a different priority.

but NO the zoltac is not the one to get when compared to the gigabyte windforce imo.

well, if you want to base your purchase on one synthetic benchmark - i guess so.

Can you give me some benchmarks that show the Windforce winning?

if you want that card, just buy it - you seem to be pretty much decided.

not saying anything is wrong with that.

It's just you're the first person so far to recommend that card. More people have recommended the Zotac over anything else.

My case and fans do a good job cooling by stuff. I'm not to worried about it getting that hot. I have plenty of space.

i am looking into the zotac card too. so imo, the temps recorded with the zotac card really arent that bad. theyre very solid for a 780. the zotac is the only 780 to outperform a titan right out of the box in a few benchmarks, so it is definitely the fastest 780 on the market now. its only real downfall is its power consumption, which can push close to 340w on some really demanding games. but it really isnt a downfall at all if you have a high enough psu. im putting mine in a mini itx build with a 660w supply. but i mean, with solid noise levels, solid temps, and beast performance all for the same price as the reference, i dont see any issues with it. but i understand your pain, i dont know why i dont see any video reviews of the card on youtube. i guess it was a little late to the game. i would be much more comfortable with someone like tek syndicate or ncix or linus do a review of it before i buy it.

and in reply to qbsinfo, http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/59857-zotac-gefo... if you follow the link, youll see that the windforce does not and probably will not outperform the zotac. not to say its not a great card, runs quiet and cool, but it wont score better. and you could still obviously make an argument for why the windforce is better for other reasons but if your looking for the one of the fastest 780s, then the zotac is your card.

honestly though, the zotac is a great card, but it really doesn't matter what 780 you get, they all have their + and -s.

the evga classified is the best 780. it has the best voltage controller and uses hynix or samsung memory.

NCP4206, NCP4208, ASP1212, and CHIL8318. the ASP1212 is voltage locked, stay away. the NCP4206 is the reference controller and is a 6 phase and is a good controller. the NCP4208 is an 8 phase controller but has erratic llc but still is good. the classified uses the CHiL8318 and is a 14 phase and is only used in the classified.

as far as overclocking is concerned this makes the classified the best. if the quietest or the best cooler is your main concern then look at reviews.

no the evga ftw and sc are using the reference ncp4206 controller, also found in the gtx titan, which many have soft modded and got some pretty high overclocks out of with water blocks....up until the 780/780ti's were released. though admittedly if your going to waterblock, there really is no point in buying any gk110 other than the evga classified(kingpin likely) or msi lightning as they are completely designed for this. if you want to get 1300mhz to 1400mhz on air, also get the classy/lightning. if your fine with a good overclock around 1200mhz, evga acx(sc or ftw), msi gaming(twin frozr), gigabyte windforce... hell even the asus dc2 is fine, just most try not to get it if they can help it.... unless its dramaticlly cheaper than the other versions. there very likely isn't anything wrong with other vendors, but i personally would pay money for a gpu that wasn't made by sapphire(amd), evga(nvidia), msi, gigabyte, or asus... in that order and of course weighing out price. meaning an extra $10-20 for evga piece of mind is worth it to me.

Ok. I have my eyes squarely on the 780ti classy. 1300+ is definitely a must. water is an option with my kraken g10/kraken x40 combo that I already have. Im going to get the add on backplate as well. The only thing in my way is considering the kingpin edition but so far I cant find any reason its worth it for clocks of 1300-1400.

i would be very careful with the kraken g10 because as far as i know it doesn't fully cool the vrms and mosfets on all cards and you need some other measures to make sure those stay cool. you can go as high as 1.35v on the core with the classy with the classified voltage tool and unlock a 200% power target with a skynet/custom bios. once you do this temps skyrocket.

I appreciate that. I will be monitoring temps very very closely. I used my g10 on my 290x running at 1240/1400 with 1.325-1.350v and vrm temps only hit 80c. I am hoping my aftermarket high cfm fans on my g10 and x40 combined with the haf in my case along the cooling plate preinstalled on the classy that I can keep temps in check. I will be monitoring temps and taking my time with every step up. I have no intention of frying my 700 dollar flagship.

just curious… are you "upgrading" from a 290x to a classified? or is this a different rig?

I became disenchanted with 290x after really having my heart set on having one. In the end there are just too many issues and too much of a gamble for me so really In a way I am just changing over to as opposed to upgrading to. I returned my 290x.
