I was looking to buy a Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB for my first gaming pc. I was wondering would it be able to run games such as Battlefield 4 1080 on high with decent fps and would you recommend the card?
That card will work just fine for what you want to do. As Bassim said though there are newer cards such as the AMD r9-270x that will give you better performance for the same price.

Bassim Ansari :
For the same price you're better off with the newer r9 270x which is newer and better.
Also it depends on your monitor resolution.
You could easily float through all games on low end card if your monitor is at 1280 x 1020 and not on 1920x1080p.
I was planning on using my TV as a monitor for now. Nothing fancy.
What resolution is your TV?
My TV at School is 1080i at home 1080p. I probably going to buy a monitor in the future though.
That is fine. Even at 1080p, that gpu will run everything just fine, as long as you don't...
