Hello i'm building my first pc and got a EVGA GeForce GTX760 w/EVGA ACX Cooler 2GB. I want to have duel monitors but the monitor I have now is only vga and I have a 1080p dvi one coming soon. I have a Geforce FX 5500 256MB card laying around and was wondering can I use both of these cards in the same computer? Reason being is the 5500 has a VGS thing on the back of it. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard. If someone can help i'll be very thankful.

You can get a DVI to VGA converter, and just run 2 displays off your 760.

Or perhaps something like this, which is hdmi to vga.

If I get the DVI to VGA converter wouldn't that take up the DVI spot? Where would I plug in my other monitor?

The GTX 760 should have 2 DVI slots, DVI-D and DVI-I an HDMI and DisplayPort. You would use the converter on the DVI-I slot and your new monitor on your DVI-D slot.

This is what they look like

I'd grab this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1HE... about the same price, these used to come with older GPUs quite often. Should check some of your old boxes see if you might not have one already.

I never bought a GPU until now. A family member gave me the 5500 for free. But thank you, you really helped me out. just everything is confusing for me because i'm building my first pc and don't know much about them.

Well I have another question but it's not related to GPUs or anything. I was looking up if I can use the storage I have now and put it into my new pc. I have vista on the storage im using now but will be installing windows 7 on my new computer.

What storage device do you have right now? You may be able to use the old hard drive.

Definitely can't use the OS on it though, You'll need to install new OS with new motherboard.

Go into device manager, It will say what drive you have.

You can find device manager in control panel.

That drive will work, It's a 320gb Sata I so a bit old now but perfectly useable if you're on a strict budget.

Well I bought a Western Digital 1 TB RE3 SATA 3 Gb/s 7200 RPM 32 MB. Is it even worth installing the old one?

I wouldn't bother if you've got a new one. 1TB is usually enough space as well so I'd only do it if you were desperate for more space.

You can install both, I mean why wouldnt you want to? An extra 320gb of storage space always comes handy at some point.
