Hi,

NOTE: I have posted the same problem on the memory forum but i did not get many replies so posting it here in motherboard section too. Sorry.

I recently bought a 4 gb ram stick of 1600 mhz and installed it in my system (core i3, Intel DH55pj MB, 2 gb 1333mhz) which had win ultimate 32 bits. The system successfully booted up and showed 6 gb installed with 3.25 usable.

I tried reinstalling win ultimate 64 bit but the setup would be stuck at win logo right at start. Not knowing what to do i puulled out the 4 gb stick and successuly installed the 64bit version with 2 gb only. My thinking was if the 32 bit picked up the extra ram so should this 64 bit one.

Unfortunately this is not working. When i install the 4 gb stick and boot, win 7 fails to start. It shows me the option of start normally or repair. When i start normally the system restarts. When i try reapair windows loading shows up and then blank screen. When i pull out the 4 gb stick, the system starts successfully albeit it shows 'memomry decreased, press enter to continue' message before starting windows

Intel DH55pj officially only supports 1033 and 1333 mhz ram. Yes i know i'm an idiot but plz read this link before u call me an idiot here. infact call me anything u like just help me plz.

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2016885/ram-spee...

I have already tried to F8 -> safe mode. but every option i try results in resart when both rams are installed. but when i pull out 4gb ram, syatem srats successfully.

also, i took out the 2gb stick, put in the 4 gb stick but windows won't start. i tried to boot from bootable usb to see if i can install new windows (with only the 4 gb stick inside) but the system hangs up just after loading files section when windows logo shows up.

Please keep in mind that this 4gb stick was put in computer alongwith 2 gb stick when it had 32 bit ultimate win7 . there were no problems then as it had picked the 4 gb stick as weel as the 2 gb stick. I only wanted to install 64 bit so all of it would be used. now i'm stuck with this ram i cant return :pfff:

BTW, whenever itake out or put in ram this screen briefly shows up with messages like 'table mismatch - updating remote pc assist technology setting new table fingerprint [complete]' . i took a pic of this and copied this text to share here. perhaps this might help.

I can't return the ram as it is showing up fine and working and the shop will not taake it back. i've tried looking inside bios for any option that might help but cant figure anything out.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry. I need to know precisely what RAM Module you purchased. I realize that may not be easy as you purchased it from the store you purchased the computer from. If you can't link to it, just answer me this. How many memory chips are on each side of each RAM Module? I'm just wondering if it's single sided (SS) or double sided (DS). What's really throwing me off is that the system works with 6GB of RAM installed and running a 32-bit OS, but does not boot with 4GB or 6GB of RAM installed with a 64-bit OS installed.

lot of info, what motherboard is it and what ram were you planning on using...just to make it easy.

If it is easy to PM me, just do it that way, Just incase i lose this thread.

For the record, if you ever plan on getting more then 16GB Ram, you will need windows 7 professional, as home premium only supports a max of 16GB installed.

Impossible to tell without knowing specifically what 4GB RAM module you purchased.
Your link to the RAM Speed thread does not work, so I can't tell what was said there.
While I suspect the issue is the DDR3-1600 speed (which as you correctly noted, is not supported), it may actually be the RAM module configuration.

cpu Core i3

i'm copying that thread below which is not opening . it will explain the background. Thank you for your interest guys. i'll be online in abt 1 and 30 mins so plz dont mind my late response.

Hi ,

Guys i've got 2 questions and would greatly appreciate your opinions.

I recently added a 4 GB 1600 mhz ram to my pc which already had one 2 gb 1333 mhz stick in it. The system has detected it and everything is running fine. My question is when I run Cpu z the following info is shown in memory tab -> Dram frequency 665 mhz.

Question 1: Is the motherboard using the lower frequency i.e. 1333 mhz for both ram stick?

Now this 2nd question needs some explaining :ange:

My motherboard is Intel DH55pj which officially only supports 1033 and 1333 mhz ram. When i went to my local market i could not find any new 1333mhz ram from a reputable company so i went to the original shop i bought this pc from and asked what i could do? they told me that a 1600 mhz ram would work. I was sceptical so they said they would install it in my system. If it runs properly and i test it myself i could buy it.

They installed it and now my system detects it and working properly. i bought it and system is running fine

question 2: Why would intel not show 1600 mhz ram compatibility on their motherboard?? surely it would be an extra selling point.

your opinions would be greatly helpful. Thanks

Thank you for your interest. if i remember correctly the 4 gb stck has black modules/chips on one side only, while the 2 gb stick has modules/chips on both sides. Is this what you mean by single sided (SS) or double sided (DS). Please excuse my ignorance if i am wrong. I'm not home right now but will check and confirm as soon as i get back.

and yes, when the shopkeepr put in the 4 gb stick for demo it had 32 bit win ultimate installed in it. When i clicked properties on my computer it showed 6 gb installed 3.25 usable gb .

I have already tried to change slots by putting in 4gb stick where the 2 gb stick was and removing the 2gb stick entirely, but newly installed win wont start with that either. The bios detects both sticks (6144 mb), says its in dual channel. also, the 32 bit system detected it and from the post i put at toms earlier i was told that my system is using lower clock of 1333 to match both sticks.

As for resetting bios i dare not try that until all other options are exhausted. Infact i don't even know to do that. I'll go a see if the voltage change you mentioned can be done but i remember going there too in bios and the only options bios gives me is 1.5, 1.6 and 1.65.

Thank you. I know abt this program and have used it before when 32 bit was running. when i clciked memory tab it showed 6 gb total, dual channel with 665 mhz.

If you take a look at the Tech Specs I previously linked, on Pg 15 - Table 3, it states the 4GB RAM module needs to be double sided. Again, why it worked in the 32-bit OS and not in the 64-bit OS is beyond me

thank you, i just checked that table you pointed out :fou: if it have failed at the shop i would not have bought it in the first place but it did work perfectly from feb 8th when i purchased it till the new OS install attempt.

Right now the bios shows both rams perfectly well. Perhaps it is windows itself ??Neither will it boot up with 4 gb stick (alone or with 2 gb stick) or allow me to install new OS as it gets stuck at win logo? i will try to install the 32 bit with 6gb or if that does not work install 32 bit win7 with 2 gb installed and try to add 4 gb later.

do you have any idea what this message "table mismatch - updating remote PC assist technology setting new table fingerprint [complete]" means? it showed up repeatly when i was experimenting with removing/installing/exchanging rams when trying to get windows to work. It showed up whenever some harware change took place.

Well guys, since nothing was helping

i pulled out the 4 gb ram -> installed the 32 bit win 7 ultimate -> shut down PC -> installed 4 gb stick in 2nd slot -> started pc and voila!. The windows started successfully. It has detected the 2nd stic and now shows "installed memory 6 GB (3.24 usable)" the same as before.

Thank you guys for helping.
