Oh yes, now we are getting into technical stuff : )

If you play a lot of first person shooter games, two things you want to look at is the Refresh Rate of the monitor,

And 2nd you want to look at the Response Time.

The lower the response time the better it is.

In this case, the Asus wins because it's response time is 2ms which is far less than the Acer which has a response time of 5 ms.

That means while playing online, you are definitely not gonna be losing out on precious milliseconds to kill the enemy.

And we all know how demoralizing that can be? :p

About refresh rate .. most monitors have a refresh rate of 60Hz which is standard.

However, however Refresh rates offer more smoothness in gameplay. Once you get hooked on to a 120 Hz monitor, normal monitors will start to look jittery!

However , monitors with 120 Hz refresh rate are costly.

Another thing is 120 Hz monitors are only TN panels not IPS panels.

IPS panels I believe have more richer and better colors than TN panels.

Basically it all jogs down to what your game preferences are.

I sacrifice, richer colors for smoother gameplay ( own a 60hz Panel) but also like low response times as possible.

Good luck !

You have 2 REAL choices if your looking for a monitor specific to gaming.

ASUS VG248 144Hz Gaming monitor. Amazing out of the box performer & 3D ready w/ NVIDIA 3D Vision 2

Also consider:

QNIX QX2710 Evolution II 27" LED Monitor. This is a 1440p monitor that can easily be overclocked to 120hz. So you get the best of both worlds. High Hz w/ higher resolution @ 1440p.

I was in the same place as you are just 2 weeks ago. I purchased the ASUS, and then starting reading about how great 1440p is. I ended up folding and purchasing both. Now I have a ASUS VG248 144Hz on craigslist because the overclocked QNIX is so damn awesome. The only thing im going to miss is the 3D Vision. I invested $150 in this kit, and will probably loose my butt selling it off. Once you game in 1440p @ 120hz.....GAME OVER!
