First off, here are some computer specs
-MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI
-AMD Athon x2 4200+
-2GB RAM
-Corsair HX520W power supply

So I got my hands on a used Radeon HD 4870x2 and after I installed the drivers I had problems starting up. It boots up to the windows logo and then the screen goes white with greyish lines and about 10 seconds later will go to no singlal. If I go into device manager there are two entries for the adapter since it is a dual gpu card. They have the same name. If I disable one then my computer runs fine using just the other core. If I disable that one and re-enable the other one, then my computer boots into generic lower resolution.

I have tried to reinstall drivers multiple times and its always the same result. When the second core is disabled, GPUz shows wierd numbers like 100% fan, 4096MB memory size, and crazy temps even though its not even enabled. Is that core fried, is there something wrong with drivers?

with such an old card, you may have to make sure that you are using the latest drivers that were released for that card rather than the newest drivers. also, it should just show up as one gpu-z, not two

you may also have to enable crossfire, as that is essentially what the card is doing with the 2 gpu's on it

Thanks for the reply. How would I go about enabling crossfire. I thought it would already be enabled with the drivers since the card has built in crossfire basically.

eh you still likely have to enable it in the catalyst control center

Most likely one of the GPUs on the card is dead. It didn't have the best cooling after all and if it was kept in a case with poor ventilation it may have died a heat death.

I don't see anywhere in CCC to enable it crossfire. The only option under performance is AMD Overdrive. Remember I have one of the entries for "Radeon HD 4870x2" disabled under Dispaly Adapters in device manager. Thats the only way my computer fully boots up. Does CCC automatically sense that and not show me the option to enable crossfire anymore?

Also, how can I tell which one is the master and which is the slave?

I got the same card from a friend, it was dead with out anything displayed, I took it to the repair shop in Guangzhou, China, and the problem was fixed, I mount it on a ASUS P5K motherboard, download the driver from AMD, and then the report of the GPU-Z is the same as yours, but the "ATI Crossfire" shows "Enabled", I haven't try to enable anything, it was enabled in automatic.
