How to tell if my gpu was damaged by heat

Well then its not damaged. You would know if it was damaged if the display made blue or white screens or maybe weird lines were appearing. Just be careful for this not to happen again

Well if you went to 90 degrees after about 15 minutes of game play and it stayed 90 for the rest, there is a potential damage. I am not sure how you can test it other than start the computer back up. What GPU is it?

Yeah, as I said I don't know any other way to test except to turn it on. Check for any black spots on the PCB. Anything burned? Did you see any smoke?
