Hello,

While using my computer, the monitor suddenly went blank, but the computer did not turn off (i.e. I could still hear fans running). I attempted to hold the power button to perform a hard reset, but that did not work.

After turning the computer off using the PSU toggle switch, I then turned it back on, and found the computer would not POST at all. The monitor remained blank and reported no signal.

I jumped to conclusions and assumed it was the motherboard. I replaced the MOBO with a brand new one from Newegg, and found the computer continued to not POST and the monitor reported no signal.

I then followed all of the steps on this post located here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems. I still could not get the computer to boot.

I bought a multimeter and decided to test each pin on the 24 pin connection and the 4 pin connection for the CPU using the "paper clip" test. I found that each pin provided at least as much power as promised (i.e. the 12 volt pins showed 12.14 volts, 3.3 volt pins showed 3.35 etc). The only thing that seemed unusual was the gray wire 8 pin showed a reading of ~60 on my multimeter using the VDC setting. I read somewhere that it should start and 0 and move up to 5.

I also tried using only the onboard video and my GPU and could not get anything to POST. I also tried using a different monitor that I know was properly functioning.

My components are as follows:

Samsung DVD Burner Model SH-S223B-OEM
2 OCZ AMD Black Edition DDR3 Ram
Sapphire 100284L Radeon HD 5750 Video Card
(Original MOBO) Gigabyte GA-MA790GPT-UD3H AM3 MOBO
(New MOBO) MSI 760GM-P34 (FX) AM3+
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb CPU
OCZ ModXstream Pro 600W Module PSU
Western Digital WD Blue 500GB Hard Drive

I really don't want to buy a new computer and I would much rather hone in on the exact problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
Old video card. New mobo. All the ram is unlikely to fail at the same time, PSU tests fine... old video card...

Do you have any way to test it somewhere else?

That said, be damn sure you are dummy checking yourself. Make sure plugs are plugged, memory snapped in firmly, cpu seated properly, the correct power plugs in the correct spots and seated properly... Im a very intelligent man and I make those mistakes more often then I should.

Brarboy,

I just tried it without the ram stick and GPU, with cpu, cpu cooler and single hdd. I do not hear any beeps, but I am not certain that my case has speakers. It is the Antec 300. After trying it only with the hardware you suggested, I still do not get any video / POST. It does detect some sort of signal, but remains blank.

Thanks,

have you checked you cable, one that connects your monitor. Also if you don't have motherboard speaker it might become difficult to detect you real problem. Get a speaker for you motherboard and try exchanging your monitor to gpu cable(can be faulty).

Brarboy / jghaverty,

I restarted the install from the beginning including pulling the CPU to check it. I found some bent pins on the CPU that were causing it not to POST.

Thanks for your help
