My Windows 7 computer wouldn't turn on anymore so I turned the hard drive into an external hard drive. The problem is that I don't have my disk/box for Microsoft Office anymore. Can I search for a file or something on my hard drive that has the activation key stored? After all I had to type it into the computer to activate it so it makes sense to me that it would be stored to ensure I was using a valid version of the product. Or is that too logical a thought for a Microsoft?

I tried that but it only brings up the computer that I'm on and not what's on my external hard drive.

Yes, that's what I did and it only picked up my current laptop. I saved it under Program Files just like I used to save all my software when it was still an active laptop. I tried looking for a place on they Keyfinder that will allow me to scan the external but I can't. Just like when I try to access Microsoft Office from the external. It says that my computer doesn't have an activated version even though I click on my external, which DOES have it activated. I haven't transferred any files over so I haven't messed up any files.
