I would not recommend it. The CX series is a budget line and uses cheap Chinese made capacitors. In a budget system with a low end graphics card the CX is fine. I would not use it in a higher end setup like yours. Not sure where you are but here in the US the Seasonic G series 650w unit would be a great choice at around $100. If you are in another country try and stay with tier 2b and up on this list.

600-650W is good... anything more than is future proofing... Also do you plan on going SLI later on if so go with 800W-1000W, Also go with a Sliver Certified or Higher Power supply... also don't go cheap either..

The 600w model has not been reviewed by any of the good review sites yet. All the sub 1000w EVGA units are made by FSP and will be tier 3 just like the Corsair CX for the same reasons. Substandard capacitors. The 1000w+ units are made by SuperFlower and are excellent. Tier 1 and as good as anything on the market.

If you have one there is no reason to replace it. They are good units just don't expect them to last much longer than the warranty. As the list shows the only units you should replace if you have one are the models in tier 5.

psst the sub 1000 SUPER NOVAs are made by FSP. the others a HEC . . .
http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page2293.htm

at least jonny guru gave a pass to the 500B (assuming its same platform as the 600B)
Reviews - EVGA 500B 500W

but thats OT . .for the OP:

your system power sans GPU

that's 162 watts OC to 4.6Ghz w/o accounting for the PSU efficiency since it was measure from the wall. (actully it would be less than 90% of that) but we'll leave it as is to account for you HD and whatnot.

GPU @ stock:

186 watts but lets round up to 190.

so we have 190 and 165 (i like rounding up) for 355 watts. since we never like to MAX a PSU's load, rule of thumb is keep it no more than 80%:

355/.8= 443.7 watts as a minimum requirement.

now i don't know why there is talk of a 1K watt PSU when i know folks that run a 770 SLI setup with a quality 650 watt PSU.

I didn't see a 1000w unit recommended anywhere in this thread.

If you really want to know about a power supply go check out the jonnyguru forums not just the reviews. The Badcaps forums are also great reading as are the Hardwaresecrets forums. Yes they pass and even do well in testing. That only tells half the story though as cheap capacitors will start to fail and kill a unit like the lower end EVGAs or Corsair CX in a couple of years where as a quality unit will last for closer to 10 years.

Oh and HEC/Compucase is a worse OEM than FSP who actually have some decent designs on the market. You are correct about the OEM though. EVGA has released new models since I looked last. HEC will not be a step up.

i mention there is talk of a 1K PSU.

and yes the JG and bad cap forums are very excellent. it helped me to understand how a 85c cap will last 2.5 years when a 105c cap will last over 7 years when both have a load life of 1,000 hours and exposed to 50c ambient temps.
( did i pull my wienie far enough out?)

but never cruised the HS forums. i'll lurk around there - thanks for the tip. :)
