Hi. It looks as though they have gone forever. You need an O/S to run recovery software. If you install O/S software it may overwrite the files which could have been recovered. It is a catch 22 situation. You could attach the hard drive to another computer and use that computers O/S to run recovery software on your formatted drive. You may just be lucky

Take out the hard-drive, attach is as a secondary in another computer, run Recuva to scan the drive and see if anything is recoverable.
If you already used that formatted disk and installed something over it the chances of getting files back is very small on your own. A data recovery service is expensive but you can look into that also.
