Hi guys,

I'm currently torn between getting a Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC 4GB or XFX Radeon R9 290 Double Dissipation Black Edition 4GB ( i just like how the logo lights up).

Which card is better? I've read good reviews on the sapphire card but haven't seen any regarding the XFX card. I play games like BF4, Total War: Rome 2 and Warframe. My main concern is cooling as i live in Perth, Australia and it can get kinda hot here from time to time (up to 40c some days).

Anyway here are my system specs:

CASE: BitFenix Shinobi Black Mid Tower Case w/Side Panel Window
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP LGA1150 ATX
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K Haswell 3.4GHz
RAM: Avexir 8GB Kit (2x4GB) DDR3 Core Series C9 1600MHz Blue LED
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO Series 2.5" 7mm 120GB SSD
HDD: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 3.5" 1TB 64MB 7200RPM HDD
PSU: XFX TS 80+ Gold 650W Power Supply
FANS:2 x BitFenix Spectre 140mm Blue LED, 2 x BitFenix Spectre Pro 120mm, 1 x BitFenix Spectre Pro 120mm Blue LED
FAN CONTROLLER: BitFenix Recon 5-Channel Touch Screen LCD 5.25" Fan/LED Controller
CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler with 2 x Corsair SP120 120mm Performance Edition Cooling Fans (Push/Pull)
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64Bit

So if i get 1 of the above r9 290's can my PSU handle it? if not could you recommend another graphics card?

Thanks in advance guys!

Sapphire is generally considered the go to brand for AMD
Lots of good reviews on it too.

Your PSU should be okay but you won't have a huge amount of headroom

So will i b able to run it in there for years to come or is it going to wear out my PSU fairly quickly? Just curious because on the sapphire and XFX website it recommends 750w PSU but on some other threads on tom's
people have run their r9 290's on 600w PSU just wondering if it effects how long the PSU will last

It shouldn't negatively affect it too much. The fact that it is a gold rated means less
wasted energy in the PSU = less heat = longer life under high load

I would say sapphire is good but watch out for 290 heat issues and drivers. Btw why not 780...780 is way better unless your using it for mining and gaming.

780 and 290 are in the same performance segment

Agreed op but lately too many stories on 290 cards and plus mining has pushed that card price up.
