Removing the HDD cage, moving the HDD and SSD into the 5.25" bay

Hello!

I'm looking to buy a new GPU and I'm considering the GTX 780 from Asus. Unfortunately, it's longer than 280mm so it could only fit in my Sharkoon Nightfall case if I remove the HDD cage.

The cage is removable, that wouldn't be an issue, but I'm wondering if it's safe (in regards to cooling) to put the HDD and the SSD (or SSDs for that matter, since I plan to buy another one soon) up into the 5.25 bay. I only have an optical drive and a card reader in there currently, so there's enough space. Is it ok to put the HDD up there, currently it's being cooled directly by a 120mm fan on the front of the case, and wouldn't it be even better for the GPU to be additionally cooled by that fan directly?

Thanks!

I'd say you'd be fine. Look at a bracket (3.5->5.25) that'll make the install easier. You could even find one with a fan if your case is heating up too much. Maybe check the operating temperatures of the disk online. Though it should max out around 70 degrees (Celsius) and I doubt your case would get that hot.

I have friends that have taped their SSD's to the inside of their cases and they're still going strong.
