Good morning :)

This is a new build machine running windows 8.1 inside a tiny Lian Li PC-Q03. I'm not sure if I should believe the MSI CPU reading or the 3rd party software? The readings below are after a quick 5-10 play of tropico 4 on high settings.

The CPU according to MSI click bios idles under 40c or mid 50's on the the other software. My only concern is that after a few hours play (Twice now) the game has frozen. Although this didn't happen in the beginning, so I don't no if it's a software conflict or its over heating, or perhaps something else.(A recent spyware infestation didn't help, although malwarebytes fixed that up)

Also for some reason in the main bios the CPU climbs quickly to 65c and more before I boot into windows, it then cools back to normal quite quickly.

The cooler is a Noctua NH-L9a, Crucial BLT4G3D1869DT2TXOBCEU 4GB Ballistix memory, Corsair Builder Series CXM 500W Modular.

Could you also recommend some monitoring software. Even if it's not freeware, I'm becoming a little obsessive now with these temps and stability. I'd like to get to the bottom of the freeze ups. Stupidly, I didn't check the temps after the crashes :( I know I'm a clown sometimes.

Best regards

Edit :

The above image is maybe not so clear, here's another after some web browsing only :

If the MSI reading is correct I think I'd be more than happy, just concerned with the other softwares readings as I've seen it jump to as much as 80 - 90c :(

If your games freeze up and stuff, it's more than likely that your CPU overheated. I'm not sure which one is correct, but I'd go with the MSI reading since those are temps taken directly from the motherboard your processor is placed in. As for that overheating problem, you might want to check the thermal paste under that heatsink, how long ago did you make this build anyway?

Cheers for the replies :) The build is a few weeks old. Both speccy and hwmonitor give identical readings of 53c (Give or take) at idle while the MSI software gives a more healthy 38c as you will see from the above image.

Interestingly speedfan temp 1 matches the temp of the MSI click bios.

I'm actually not quite sure how to read the HWmonitors findings, or what to make of them. TMPIN0 mirrors the temp findings of the MSI click bios, while the 'package' reading mirrors the temp findings of speccy. It's all rather confusing for me lol
