HP probably has a 230W - 300W Power supply in your computer, matched for the components installed in it. Although the GTX 640 doesn't require much on the PSU side - you may need to upgrade your PSU to support the GPU.

Something like this PSU would give you what you need: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

You should be able to install a graphics card if this [http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en...] is your PC. As for the 3 long beeps, that is an indication that something went wrong with the RAM. For advice, I would just say to look up a video on how to do it if you don't already know. You would also need a new PSU. I would recommend an XFX 500 Watt PSU if you are looking to get an OK graphics card.

Ok that is my computer, but also its an apu which means the graphics card is in the motherboard so would i have to disable those on board graphics to put in the card? And also i looked up what the 3 long beeps meant and it said it was a graphics card problem....

The GT 640 requires 75 watts and does not have a PCIe power connector. You probably should upgrade the PSU (Nvidia recomends a 350 watt, you have a 300 watt), but that should not keep the PC from turning on if the GPU is working and installed correctly. The motherboard will default to the GPU for video output unless you changed that setting in BIOS.

Are you sure the GPU is working and installed correctly?

Well my friend brought over his card one day (which was the 640), and i think was in correctly. Also the computer is an apu so do i have to disable those on board graphics from the bios?

You might have to select the PCIe graphics as default in BIOS; however having the APU selected with the GPU installed shouldnt cause a error during POST.

If it's one of the 500 series with windows 8, HP, Microsoft, and ATi/AMD had informed me that UEFI causes a lot of hardware upgrade problems... That you need to get into the UEFI firmware sitting on the bios and disable secure-boot, then go into bios and set PNP hardware or what have you to Legacy... I had the same issue with 3 beeps, and after disabling secure-boot and setting legacy, my ATi R5 runs flawlessly... except Dx shows that I have 6.5gb of graphic ram.. Pardon my neglect of model number on my gfx card, but my pc is currently down.

After a windows update and my pc restarting... I can't get to bios UEFI, anything... The pc boots and seems fine but nothing happens.. I've used the onboard graphics and my ATi card no dice... Even removed the GPU and still nothing... I'm lost..
