OK, here's the story:

Recently I decided to build a PC. This is my first time building a PC, but I'm not a total noob when it comes to this stuff. So anyways, I purchased all the parts and put it together, but it didn't work! Oh dear. Turns out there was a problem with the motherboard. So I sent it back and got a different brand instead. So, I received the motherboard 2 days ago and assembled the PC. Booted it up and it work! Hurray! Or so I thought. So I went along my business, installing google chrome and Steam and what not. now, I don't remember when it happened exactly, but my PC just froze up. Mouse wouldn't move, couldn't CTRL+ALT+DEL and sounds all stopped. Puzzled, I rebooted my computer and it went along normally, except this time I couldn't even log in before it froze. So for the past 2 days my computer has been freezing at random points (It would never last longer that 1 hour). I also had the case open when booting it and I saw that the CPU fan (or heatsink) would spin up, stop then 2-5 seconds later spin up again. Sometimes it wouldn't spin at all! It's very odd, very frustrating and I don't know what to do!

Specs:

CPU: AMD FX-8320
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 760
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-790a-DS3
RAM: 4x2gb Gskill RAM
Harddrive: Seagate 1TB SSHD
PSU: Corsair CX 500w
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)

Now heres what I have tried/done:
I have installed drivers for GPU.
I have re-installed windows.
Tried with 1 stick of RAM.
Turned it on and off again.

Any help would be appreciated. (I do believe it may be a problem with the GPU)

@Charlie Pawlak, I'll try to, but as of now I can't even log into my computer

@lonewolf7 this is also something I considered. The first motherboard I had had an 8 pin CPU (from the PSU) connector, but my second motherboard is a 4 pin. Luckily, after about an hour of panicking I realised the 8pin splits down the middle into 2 four pin connectors. Could the CPU not be getting enough power?
I can't get my hands on another powersupply at the moment though.

What does breadboarding mean? D:

And as for the CPU/HSF, yes they are both seated correctly.

Frankly I doubt your PSU, its not a good one, so it could be the source of problem. The fan of CPU spinning and stopping indicates that.

Try to borrow a PSU from someone to test, else it would be difficult to diagnosis the problem. To troubleshoot the issue you need the PC running right ?

BreadBoard = Disassemble everything and take out the components from the cabinet.

1. Find a wooden table or cardboard box make sure its clean.
2. Mount CPU, 1 stick of Ram, on MB. (HDD not needed at this moment)
3. Attach to 24 pin ATX and the CPU power connection on the MB from PSU.
4. If there is a onboard VGA plug the monitor into it, else mount 1 GPU and connect to monitor.
5. Find a flat head screw driver or metal coin to short the MB to start up(be careful and don't touch anything else). Refer to the MB manual for front panel I/O. If you don't know how to do it than Google it.
6. No need for KB or mouse at this moment.

Look if it works and you get the splash screen. Good Luck.

Ah, ok, yes i did do this before I mounted the motherboard in the case. There were no problems (Maybe because I didn't have it on long enough?)

And as for the temperatures, the CPU temps were roughly 35 degrees (Celsius i think?) and GPU was 30 Degrees.

Stand-offs are fine, I triple checked :)
What else could you recommend I do, apart from try a different PSU? I might not be able to get my hands on one.

Well, I seem to be having more troubles now.

The Heatsink will spin up for 3 seconds, then stop. It won't start up no matter what I try. I'm not getting any video output either. The CPU seems to not be responding?

I am quite frustrated at the moment and don't know what to do :(
