Are 4k monitors worth it?

Buying and using for what?

For gaming, you will need monster graphics. It's 4 1080p screens in 1 basically. Most new games can just do full 1080p with a decent graphics card. 4 of them for gaming, needs a few really powerful graphics cards in sli/crossfire and a good cpu to not get bottlenecked.

For watching movies, it's a waste, there is no movies in that size and everything will be upscaled and jagged.

For doing massive photo editing work or 3d modelling, it would probably rock.

Depends on your usage and current system requirements.

FYI, that screen you linked isn't a 4k screen. I should have looked first. lol. It's just a wider screen HD monitor. No where near as demanding as 4k, which is 4x1080p. That screen is 2560x1080, over 1920x1080. So a good graphics card could handle it, it's not a huge step over 1080p. Still need high end graphics though for gaming.

There currently only 2 gpus or 3 that gonna handle4k without aa in gaming thou you have to fidget with the settinga to get optimal pperformance. They are titan black edition , 290x and 790(yet to be released) they might not hit 60fps but they seem the only capable gpus. You might have to sli them to break d fps barrier. Honestly 4k is still in progress n not worth 4 gaming.
