Question concerning required wattage

I have little knowledge of computers, but I'm undergoing the daunting task of building a budget gaming desktop. What I'm currently concerned about is wattage. How do I know how much wattage is required for my desktop? There's this neat site ( http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ ) that tells me the pieces I've picked will take 264Ws. Do I need a power supply that totally covers that number - or is it unimportant? I'd like to spend very little on the power supply if possible - so I don't want excess wattage that I'll never need.

Thanks for any advice.

Solution
For optimum power usage and bandwith, you should hit 70% of your PSU. In other words if the suggested total watts is 264, then 377 is your magic number, round off and you should look for a PSU with 400 watts. Good luck!

Solution
Don't cheap out on a power supply. They are the backbone of your system. You don't need to go all out but don't spend $25 either. A bad PSU can go wacky and take out half your other parts.

At the top of the PCparts picker site there is the box to copy and paste the link of your actual build. Copy and paste that for us to look at the build and recommend a power suppy.

Update: If you have any thoughts on the build then your welcome to critique.
