Optical Drive, Newbie Question!

I am looking for a decent Optical Drive for my gaming build. All I want/need is the CD drive right? Just so I can install Windows 7 or 8, and maybe some games in the future. all I see on microcenter and newegg are CD-r , DVD-r , BluRay, DVD-RW,

I am totally confussed? I don't wanna order something and it be a burner only and then have to wait for another item to ship to me. Are the just called cd drive? or dvd drive?

Ohh Also, I hear something about some drives not working with the new windows 8??? whats that about? ty

To install windows, you want a DVD drive. It can be a dvd burner(almost all current DVD burners read and write dvd's and cd's as well) as well. I have only seen one bluray drive that did not read dvd/cd's. It was cheap for a reason.

You can also install Windows from USB now on most system.
