I am have seen a monitor and it says it is full hd 1080p but only has an analogue vga input. Is this wrong or is 1080p possible on vga.
Thanks

I'm personally using VGA for gaming, but my monitor is 60hz in native 1920x1080 resolution. Using HDMI only for output on secondary monitor or capture card. So it's definitely possible.

Most important difference is that when you are using VGA you cant change aspect ratio. If you are playing game at 1024x768 resolution or any other aspect ration other then 16:9 you will have black bars while with HDMI you can change that in settings for your gpu.

I don't understand, why would you play a game at 1024x768 on a 1080p monitor? You'd simply set the game to 1280x720 or 1366x768, surely?

Gonna try to explain you but I dont want to go into debate about this. If you are familiar to Counter Strike competitive scene then you should know that most players are playing game at 800x600 / 1024x768 resolution on BenQ monitors with 120/144hz which are over 300/350 euros (400$+), all that on lowest possible settings because of advantages which are possible in engine. Both 1.6 / Counter Strike Global Offensive are played on competitive scene with those settings.

I'm pretty sure you are saying now that I'm crazy and why would someone do that, but the fact is hit boxes and models are just much better like that, and if in proffesional scene is appearing something like that then it's definitely worth mentioning.
