Hi all, I have Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14 with Windows 7 64bit and 8GB of RAM, and it has an i3 M350 2.27GHz processor.

I know the CPU is locked, but is there a way to overclock it anyway? My laptop is setup as a desktop and it doesn't really ever leave the cooling stand I have it on, so I'm not too worried about the extra heat. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Solution
No, you cannot overclock it without someone creating a custom bios which would let you change the bus speed, which in a laptop is just something not worth doing, as the performance gain would be less than 5%

Ok, thanks! How do I figure out if it's possible to upgrade my CPU? It's more than just the socket type, correct? Someone said an i7 640M would work in my laptop.

You need to check to see what motherboard is in the laptop, and if that laptop is compatible for an upgrade. It's not uncommon for upgrades to cpu to be possible, but also not uncommon for them to not be compatible. also the cpu upgradse will run your roughly $300 for the cpu, and then your time, as well as thermal paste (another $10 ish) so it is up to you whether or not it is a worthwile upgrade over just getting a new laptop

Alright. Sorry for all of the questions, but how do I check what motherboard is in the laptop and if it's compatible for an upgrade or not? Again, thanks for everything.
