Does turning off the kinect improve the Xbox One's computing abilities in any way?

nope, makes no difference at all. I am developer at a gaming company. We do have API's now that give us a little more from the GPU that used to be reserved for a Kinect, however, simply unplugging it and not using it doesn't do anything to help.
