Windows Disabling Aero

Hi, everyone.

I'm getting REALLY frustrated with Windows disabling Aero randomly. I even bought a new power supply to try to fix it.

Anyway, I think it's Google Chrome that's causing it to disable, but sometimes closing all Chrome processes doesn't bring it back. I have been using net stop/start uxsms commands to toggle it on and off to try to restore it. Twice I actually got a notification showing Google Chrome wasn't compatible with Aero. I didn't write down the PID's though. I'll try to replicate it.

Also, people have said refreshing your windows index helps. For some reason, I also can't do that. It gets to video playback and crashes and says "could not measure video playback performance". So Idk what the deal is.

Overclocked or not, this is an issue, so it shouldn't be overclocking causing it.

Solution
332.21 is what I am currently running and I have a Gigabyte Windforce 770 card also. The drivers which came with the card caused issues for me with Windows Aero and the update fixed the issue. I run Firefox rather than Chrome.

It sounds like you're onto the cause already. I'm sorry I have no further useful input.

i think you may want to consider disabling using hardware acceleration in chrome*
settings/show advance/system

FYI - clicking on the desktop and pressing F4 enables/disables aero . . .

*it is a common problem with nvidia cards/drivers.

Gotcha, I'll try that. Sometimes stopping/starting fixes it, sometimes a reboot fixes, sometimes neither of it works. It's almost completely random at times. Just recently after I re-enabled notifications though I was able to single out Google for at least some of the problem.

332.21 right now. 334 is out, but I haven't downloaded it yet. Come to think of it, this pretty much started on 331.
