So me and my buddy started playing a game on the computer, and he made an enemy and this guy claims he has my buddys ip address (i do not know how) but everytime my buddy logs in this guy claims his going to shut down his internet for a brief amount of time.

And it has been happening that when my buddy logs in and this guy notices hes online his net kicks for about a minute or two.

Is there anyway to prevent this from happening if this guy is DDOS'ing?

Pretty much if he does it from his own house then he can be caught pretty easily. If he is doing real DDOS then he is paying a site to do it form him. It is not a cheap thing to do so you just wait until he decides his being stupid is costing him real money. If you pretend he is having no major effect on you most people get bored and move on.

What that guy is doing to you and your buddy is a felony. You should really report this to authorities or security department at your ISP. If you want to make it difficult for that guy to find your IP you can try using a VPN solution like HMA VPN or IPVanish. But yes depednign on the game if its peer to peer he can easily figure out your IP address.
