CPU thermometer broken?

i recently got a new computer with a i7 4770k processor, it is stock and i have not overclocked it and still ti shows extremely high temperatures, up to 75 when idle. i have 3 case fans which all works properly and the pc itself works fine. i downloaded speedfan which shows me that the CPU fan runs at 1700 rpm(it doesn't show the case fans as they are connected directly to the PSU). The temperature shuldn't be that high while idle and with all those fans so i was wondering if the thermometer that monitors the temperature might be broken and if not if there is any way i can fix this.

I also tested my GPU temperature which shows a stable 34 degrees when idle.

Solution
The GPU has its own heatsink and fan and is unaffected by the temperature of the CPU, and if the CPU is running that hot it means it is actually having a hard time getting rid of its heat into the air in the rest of the case leaving everything else nice and cool.

Either open the computer up, figure out, and solve your cooling issue or you will have to just send it back, it should not run that hot and if you put it under stress it will quickly get up to temperatures where it will damage itself.

Just humor me and open up the case and look at it. It shouldn't take more than about 5 minutes to solve this problem since it is quite likely just that one of the push pins has come loose.
What does the motherboard say that the temperature is? Check it in BIOS to make sure it isn't just the software not knowing how to read it properly. Also check and make sure one of the push pins on the heatsink didn't come loose, it isn't an uncommon issue with the intel stock cooler.

if they used the stock intel fan and the pc was shipped...turn it off before you melt the cpu. take the cover off check that the intel cpu heat sink still locked onto the cpu. the intel fan uses cheap plastic legs that are known to pop off the cpu.
the only other issue would be someone forgot to put thermal paste under the cpu heat sink.

I checked the motherboard BIOS and it said the temperature was at 70 degrees when i started it and that the system and GPU temperature was at 30 degrees. to answeer smorizio's question the processor is completely stock and is not overclocked

Are you sure it is a cooling issue because it said that the system temperature and the GPU temperature was at 30 degrees, and the fan is spinning at 1700 rpm

it doesn't seem like the heatsink is moving but one of the push pins seems to be loose, do you know how i can fasten it again?

I fastened the push pin but it doesn't seem like it helped, might have been me loosening it while checking them. the temperature is still at 70 degrees while idle.

if you bought the pc from a local store walk in with it have them check that the cpu heat sink on tight and there thermal paste under it. if not use the warranty for someome to look at it or return it. with the temp readings try using open hardware monitor make sure the temp reading is right that the 70 temp is in c and not in use 0f temp. one temp that may read as hot is the mb chipset temps.
