laptop hdd use as external

Hi all basically i have a spare laptop hdd i want to use on my desktop pc but i have ran out of internal sata connections. I can connect it to the ones outside my case but the hdd will be outside to as i seem to only have short sata leads left. Will it be ok just hooking it up and perhaps resting the hdd on the floor or side or maybe top of the case or will this be all bad. Thanks for your help in advance.

Get a USB external case or dock. Stick it in that.

Yeah I know that way but was wondering would it be ok without the enclosure and just free. Just a thought really.

So it wouldn't be any different like I thought then. Yeah could get bumped but it will be behind my desktop under my desk in no mans land lol so wouldn't get bumped.
