Hello. Im putting together a build for my friend and he is really into steam games like day z and other games like minecraft. He also likes to record and make youtube videos. Unfortunately, I had a bit of a hard time staying within his budget ($800-900). I thought maybe we could cut the ssd off that would save a good deal of cash. But he needs to be able to run fairly demanding games. We are hoping he can run these games at medium-high settings at 1080p. He may play games like battlefield 4 as well.

Your friend should be able to game and record with Shadowplay no problem.

This would do better with a SSD:

If you are willing to go without a SSD, you can upgrade your processor.

Solution
It doesn't matter. An overclocked FX-6300 will still be worst than your stock i5, but in games the huge difference between the GTX 760 and GTX 660 would show. An overclocked FX-6300 + GTX 760 will blow an i5 + GTX 660 out of the water.

Also, AMD processors have the best price/performance because they are so cheap and still offer relatively good performance. Intel processors are more expensive, but offer stronger raw performance. As you go up in performance, it's harder to keep the price/performance ratio consistent.

Ahhh, kk, makes sense, see this is what makes you a gaming master and me a student xD.

My current rig has a 8120 and I kinda wish I had tried the Intel side of things xD

Although, the 8120 really helps when I'm running my servers.

I really like this build because of the i5. Im an intel guy and I have heard in video rendering and in gaming i5 is supreme. I have myself a i7-4770k, and although I have nothing to compare it with I can say I cannot go to AMD without a strong argument in AMDs favor. But I do know that the gtx 760 is more powerful than the r9 270x as I have previously suggested. (I have a gtx 780 myself :p) So i suppose i will try to take out the ssd and edit this so it fits his budget with a combination of both of your contributions to this post. Thanks guys! Feel free to offer more suggestions. Although I have built my own I am still a noob :p
