I can NOT shut down my computer - Need an urgent help

Hello everyone. I have bought my PC about 6 moths ago. It has been working fine. 3 days ago I have updated my PC (HP-windows8) since than I can not shut it down. I have tried to change the power settings but it didn't work. The screen gets dark but the power button is still on, it never shuts down and works until having no battery.

I am in another county now for my education and do not know the language and need PC to write reports and will be here 2 more weeks. I,d be more than glad if somebody can help me. It is very urgent!

That goes without saying. From what you say it sounds like it is going to sleep when you tell it to shutdown from Windows.
If it started just after updating I would remove the updates that were installed and see what happens.

It sounds like you are using a laptop. Most laptops will hibernate when you close the lid or there is probably a sleep button somewhere.
If you cant get it to shut down just pull the battery out, when windows boots again it will probably come up with something like "windows did not shut down correctly" just tell it to start normally and it will be fine.

Thanks for your response! Yes it s HP laptop, sorry for missing information. I actually do not close the lid. Screen gets darker, fan stops (I guess), but the light of power button continues lighting. (and also F12 button turns to red, I do not know what does it mean). I had to push power button for 5 seconds to shut down it completely or wait until there is no battery. After turning on again, no warning like "windows did not shut down correctly" appears for both case. It starts very normal.

that's a bit inconvenient to do each time, it's probably best to find the reason it's not shutting down.

Thank you!

But laptop use no battery in sleep mode, does it? My PC on the other hand use all its battery because it continues working somehow. I say shut down with full battery at night(not plugged in) and I can not open again without plugging in, in the morning.

Could you tell me how to remove latest updates and have the same settings that i have 1 week ago? It might be a good solution.

I am not positive about windows 8 (I haven't had the chance to work with it that much yet) You need to find the programs item in the control panel (I think this is still what its called in windows 8) and click show updates. Look for any thing installed just before this all started and remove it. The laptop will use battery wile sleeping some use more than others.
