I can NOT shut down my computer - Need an urgent help

Hello everyone. I have bought my PC about 6 moths ago. It has been working fine. 3 days ago I have updated my PC (HP-windows8) since than I can not shut it down. I have tried to change the power settings but it didn't work. The screen gets dark but the power button is still on, it never shuts down and works until having no battery.

I am in another county now for my education and do not know the language and need PC to write reports and will be here 2 more weeks. I,d be more than glad if somebody can help me. It is very urgent!

have you changed what the power button does?

Its on the sidebar of Power Options in Control Panel.

Change that to shut down

Just try shutting down with the shut down option in start bar rather than the power button on ur laptop..
if it still doesnt then just remove the battery so the power is cut off n pc shuts down NOTE THIS IS TEMPORARY METHOD UNTILL YOU REACH HOMETOWN

Ya thats what I meant start button .. mistyped it lol .. there are other ways to shutdown with commang prompt .. but if u just log out of ur user account and remove the battery , I dun think its gonna do any harm
