I notice you mention having a new SATA HDD. Did you make any changes in BIOS relating to your SATA controller? I don't believe Windows XP is compatible with SATA controllers in AHCI mode unless you want to turn on the drivers through a hotfix, unless you installed the system under AHCI mode, and will blue screen when SATA controllers are run in anything other than RAID or IDE, until the driver is turned on either manually or through the hot fix.
Blue screens usually have information on them concerning the reason they are being shown. Have you looked any of that up, written any of it down, or is it rebooting before you get a chance? If you can't see the error, attempt to proceed into Safe Mode as johnnyb105 suggested. From within Safe Mode, you can change the behavior for the computer when it shows a blue screen. You need to go into the properties for the computer, which you should be able to access through the Start Menu, and then by right mouse-clicking on Computer and choosing Properties from the context menu. In the System Properties page that comes up, switch to the Advanced tab and click on the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery section. Uncheck the Automatically restart option and the next time the system displays a blue screen, you will be able to view it. :)
