I'm planning on buying a new monitor soon primarily for gaming. Want at least a 27in @1440p. Would really like it to be 120hz. Any recommendations? Not sure if I should just wait for the ASUS ROG monitor coming out later this year.

There are no 120hz 1440p 27in monitors in the consumer market for now. If you are real desperate about upcoming ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q monitor, then it is better you hold your horses and wait patiently for it as the target release date is end of Q1 rather or at the start of Q2. I am sure ROG series has never disappointed it consumers :D

I've heard about people overclocking some monitors. I'm not really that interested in the GSYNC features is all. Wasn't sure if should drop $800 or get something more reasonably priced. Are they releasing a version without the GSYNC hardware?

yes it does look bit overpriced for that monitor. But haven't heard anything like without GSYNC feature release.
Everything aside from that you can look at these 2 monitor though they won't provide you what you looking for, but can be an option to buy either Dell U2713HM or ASUS PB278Q.
There are Korean overclockable monitors but i don't think you would want to go with them.

Yea the high refresh rate and low response time of the new ASUS coming out is just too attractive. I think maybe I'll just hold out, even after the release, to see if ASUS themselves or any competitors come out with something that suites my needs.
