So in the middle of the night my computer powered on and then off within a few seconds. I didn't think much of it till I tried to power it back on and it wouldn't. Thinking it was a power surge I checked my other electronics plugged into the same surge protector and nothing is wrong. My motherboard has a light on it which is on but my computer won't boot. Can anyone think or anything else?

*EDIT* so it just did a mini power cycle again and I tried turning it on and it worked! Somewhat... It powered to the bios screen where it gave me a warning saying that the previous overclocking had failed + something else. I couldn't finish reading before my computer turned off. The funny thing is I keep all my parts at stock speeds. I have never OC'd before.

Sorry to say that doesn't sound good at all.

Generally when you OC, you put more power through it. If you keep everything at stock and it's now saying the OC failed, sounds like a power surge.

Have you taken the side off? Smell around for burning electronics (you can't miss the smell).

Have you any spare parts around that you can sub in to find out which has been fried?

I let the computer sit plugged in all night with the PSU flipped off. Seems like it did the trick. I'm able to boot no problem. Didn't even get a windows message. Very very strange... Will check bios later today

So there's nothing out of the ordinary in the bios. There was no burnt smell either when it happened. There was a maintenance van later that night for the neighborhood generator though so I'm pretty sure it was just a power spike which is nothing good anyway but fingers crossed there's no permanent damage. Used the computer all day yesterday with no problems so I think everything is all good. Thanks guys!
