i have a desktop computer (old model) running XP. no internet but neighbors have wifi I do have a wireless adapter and i have their permission which means I have the passcode. but when I plug it in I'm not sure what to do. Nothing happens . please help.

You probably need to get the drivers for the WiFi adapter. They probably came on a disc with it, or you may need to go online to get them.

Clearly, you've got internet on something. Download the drivers onto a USB stick, then install them.
