Hey everyone thought i'd post in this forum since nobody is answering me in the motherboard section.I had bought a second gtx 660 superclocked to sli with my Twin frozr 660 but upon trying to sli I think it fried my motherboard and cards.. Fast forward a week and now I have a new mobo (asrock z77 Extreme 4) and a new 7970 i just got off amazon.

When i tried to install the 7970 my motherboard is not detecting that there's anything in the PCIe slot and i've reseated the card, made sure all connections are correct, and cleared the cmos to no avail.

The only card my mobo will detect is the evga 660 SC but this card does not work properly as there are artifacts all over my screen. Just the fact that the evga card is being detected in my motherboard ensures that the PCIe slots are not failing and its a video card problem? My twin frozr 3 and 7970 are not being detected and when I try to boot up i get no display but I can hear windows booting up.

Any help is appreciated thank you

just like you said 3 DIFFERENT CARDS, MSI TF3 GTX 770(different BIOS different PCB), GTX 660 (different BIOS reference PCB), AMD 7970(completely by miles! diffeent BIOS and PCB). Your trying to do he impossible. even if your tried putting both 660s togethor they wouldn't work. Here's what you can do.

Use the 7970 as a primary card and the MSI TF3 gtx 660 as a dedicated Physx card using special drivers(google it). The EVGA card, sell that at ebay or here on tomshardware

I'm not trying to sli or crossfire them... This is testing them all seperately. Twin frozr 3 in primary and secondary pcie slot not being detected. 7970 in primary and secondary pcie slot not being detected. EVGA 660 superclocked being detected in both pcie slots but not usable as there's artifacts.

I just want to know if I can rule out the motherboard being at fault since atleast 1 of my cards is being recognized in BOTH slots.

And this is before any drivers installed.. I cant even install the drivers without my hardware being present.. And like i said the hardware isn't being detected in the first place.

This is on a fresh windows install so no previous drivers were installed other than the ones that came with the mobo.

And I can't install the drivers for the 7970 because the hardware isn't being detected even if I boot with onboard graphics and my 7970 plugged in

I've tried 4 different bios versions from earliest to newest so I don't believe that's the problem.

Also there shouldnt be any reason why my motherboard is detecting one 660 but not the other.

then your down to two things no three. First, its a faulty PCIE port but I doubt that since the 660 is POST. Second the other cards are faulty and need to be RMA'd. Third option, completely remove all graphics drivers of all sorts, including the registry and try to put one of the other cards in and install it's corresponding driver

Ok thank you.. This was on a fresh install so no drivers other than the motherboard drivers were installed. I'm gonna rma all 3 cards since the one 660 that IS posting is showing artifacts.
