I assume you also have a HDD installed in the desktop as well. Correct?

If so, Windows installed part of itself on your internal drive (that is why the drive in question works on the desktop and not on the laptop).

Windows will always install its boot sector to the first HDD on a system if present. That is why when users install Windows to a SSD, it is recommended to disconnect any HDDs until after Windows is installed.

You can try to repair Windows or just re-install with the single drive attached.

The best way to install Windows is with only a single HDD attached. That way Windows does not write files to any other HDDs.

Are you installing from a DVD or USB device? Also, why aren't you just installing Windows directly on the laptop?

If you leave the SSD in the laptop and boot the laptop from a Windows 7 install disk, you can get to the command prompt (I think you have to go into Repair, not sure, it's been a while), and then run the command below to restore all the boot files to the SSD:

bcdboot c:\windows /s c:

I've run into this problem a number of times in the past, and this has solved it.

[EDIT] My notes indicate you will have to change your drive to the DVD drive and directory to "boot", then run the bdcboot command:

Change directory to dvd:\Boot
bcdboot c:\windows /s c:
