Referencing http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1664767/unknown-usb-device.html , I have a problem getting my StarTech SATDOCK22U3S to recognize both Samsung SSD SM841 128GB model MZ7PD128HAFV from a Dell 9020, and Samsung SSD model MZ-7TD2560/0L9 from a Lenovo X240.

The drives are recognized fine from a USB2.0->SATA adapter cable.

The dock recognizes other hard drives, including Intel SSDs from Lenovo X220 and x230, as well as mechanical hard drives without issue.

It's got to be the StarTech dock, but what should I do next? If I contact StarTech, what do I say?
If there's another USB3.0 dock I should get, a newer model like http://www.startech.com/HDD/Docking/USB-3-Hard-Drive-Enclosure~SDOCKU33BV , then how do I know it will work?

I have found two docks that definitely work with this item:

SDOCK2U33HFB (two bays, has a fan on back that blows over hard drives)

SDOCKU33HB (One bay, metal construction, excellent build quality)

Of these two I really recommend the single bay model unless you do very many hard drive to hard drive copies, or leave a drive in the bay a long time, as the fan may help in the long run.

The single bay model is small, but has 3 USB3.0 female ports that are compatible with any such device. One of these ports can be charge only for devices you don't want to data link.

There is a power switch on back, and a sleep switch that puts any hard drive to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity.
This switch may save power, but it really shines by saving drive life and allowing the device to cool when not in use, but be available at a moment's notice when data is requested.
