Monitor won't wake after installing new card

I installed a new Nvidia GeForce 8400GS into my Dell Inspiron 546. When I plug the monitor into the new card, it recognizes that it is plugged in but doesn't "wake" from sleep mode when I turn the computer on.

I would make sure that the bios is setup to look for a discrete card and not just use the integrated graphics. I think Dell sometimes calls them PEG (PCI Express Graphics).
