Overheating when running a game

Hi everyone,

My config:

Thermaltake Commander MS-I
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P
Thermaltake Berlin 630W
AMD FX 8320
Seagate ST1000DM003 Barracuda
LG GH24NSB0 Masterizzatore DVD-RW
Corsair CML8GX3M2A1600C9
Sapphire 11217-01-20G

After clearing the silly issue I had on my newly built pc (using hdmi hooked up to tv to access bios) I finally installed windows etc.

Now I am facing another (more serious issue)
Basically, as soon as I try to stress it a little bit, say playing a game, it gets HOT. Really hot, so hot that it shuts down after 10 seconds or so.

As soon as you run the game (in the example the sims 3) the cpu fan starts spinning loudly, and here is a comparison from hwmonitor:

IDLE:

Running the sims 3 (shuts down if I don't kill the process soon after these temps)

Any idea?

The cpu heatsink is firmly hold to the motherboard, thermal paste was already on it, and they adhered perfectly.

As a side note, I enabled XMP to allow 1600mhz memory clock. Might this be the issue?

Thanks in advance to everyone!

Safe operating temp recommended by AMD for the 8320 is < 62 degrees C.

The fan is obviously working.

Are you sure the heatsink is properly installed?

Could just be bad airflow in the case.

Thanks for your answer!
I will do it right away and let you know, would it be possible to tweak voltages manually from the bios? Is the motherboard screwed if voltages are wrong? Any wrong connection I made?

Easy solution is to just get an aftermarket cooler, something like the Hyper 212+, less temperatures and less noise.

I suppose you don't have thermal paste lying around to reseat the heatsink?

For now, you can try to underclock + undervolt the processor slightly.

Yeah, on my last Gigabyte board I also had wrong readings from HWMonitor. Normal behavior for GB boards apparently.

You can check the power supply voltage in the BIOS too. You can't tweak these voltages. If the power supply is not in these ranges then it needs replaced.

ATX12V specifications acceptable voltage ranges:

+12V: +11.4V ~ +12.6V

+5V: +4.75V ~ +5.25V

+3.3V: +3.14V ~ +3.47V

Bump, any other idea?
As a side not, if I keep the tower open and put my hand near the cpu area of the motherboard (more towards the back, actually) I can feel it's REALLY hot, everything, even without touching it (of course) so I guess the cpu heatsink works and thermal paste is well stuck, as it blows hot air...no?
