I know the 780m is significantly better than the 770m. It also costs significantly more. I plan to get a laptop for mostly work stuff that doesn't require much power at all, but I also play a lot of WoW and and other "lighter" games like SC2, DoTA2, TF2, etc. Would a 780m be justified for running those games on high or very high settings, or is it needless overkill. I really don't want to spend money if I don't have to. I am also looking into Sager notebooks, so the card will be upgradable down the road. Thanks.

Solution
I've done 16 man raids on SWTOR without any issues on my 770M. I imagine WoW should handle it fine given the age of the game.

780m is an underclocked gtx 680.

Sagers Notebooks can have their components upgraded.

The 670 outperforms the 760. Where are you getting your info from? You have it backwards. The 670 outperforms the 760 by ~10%.

The 670 does not outperform the 760. I get my information from both personal experience and searching the web, in this situation, it is experience. I am starting to think you got a 780m and are trying to justify your purchase to yourself

Just gonna leave this here. Fitzitz is right.

780M is *not* a downclocked Desktop 680. It is a separate GPU (an upclocked 680MX, if anything) optimized for mobile that runs considerably slower than a GTX 760. It is a GK104 chip with 1536 CUDA Cores (matches the 770 in that regard) but with only 5 GHz memory speed (7 Ghz on the 770 and 780 desktop chips, 6Ghz on the 760) and a 256 bit memory width, and slower clocks than the GTX 760. (780M is 823 MHz on *boost*, 760 is 980 at *base clock*)

I'd say get the 765M or 770M. Cheaper if you're going to be playing those particular games, and make sure to pair them with an i5 or i7 processor, as some of those RTS/MOBAS (Starcraft in Particular) are very CPU heavy.

I have a desktop with 2 GTX 670s in sli. It should be common knowledge the 760 is barley worse than a 670.

Thanks guys. I know that anything I get will not be as good as desktop parts. That's fine. I've been building overkill desktops for a while now, and I want to cut back and go with something portable. I was looking at Sagers with a 4700MQ, so CPU shouldn't be a problem. I just need to know if I can play those games on high or ultra settings with the 770m or if it's worth going with the 780m for $300 more. I also want it to last for at least 2-3 years if possible(another reason for going with Sager, but I don't want to upgrade if I don't have to, the price of mobile components being what it is).
